Kent
brewer Shepherd Neame fought-off stiff competition
to win the EU Protected Food Name Exporter of the
Year at the Food from Britain Export Awards 2007
for Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale.
The award recognises the company's outstanding
commitment to protecting the unique character,
reputation and heritage of its products abroad.
The brewery's flagship brand, Spitfire Premium
Kentish Ale holds an EU Protected Geographical
Indication, the same regional produce protection
afforded to Parma ham and Champagne. It boasts
fans from across the globe from Germany and France
to Hong Kong and Russia and has recently developed
a keen customer base in Italy - a huge achievement
given the traditionally patriotic attitude of the
Italians towards food.
Shepherd Neame export manager Nick Harding
commented, "We're so pleased to have won this
prestigious award. A great deal of effort goes
into protecting the unique provenance of Spitfire
Ale: it is made using only locally-sourced hops
and barley and water from the brewery's own
artesian well. We shall to go on flying the flag
for British produce internationally for many years
to come."
Britain's oldest brewer Shepherd Neame produces a
range of traditional ales and award-winning lagers
at its Faversham brewery, where cutting-edge
technology is married with traditional handcrafted
techniques that can be traced back more than 300
years.
Now in their 11th successful year, the Food from
Britain Export Awards bring together the cream of
the country's export companies to recognise
achievements and celebrate success from across the
UK's food and drink industry.

Burton on Trent
The dominant character of this premium ale is its
generous fruity flavour, reminiscent of bananas

nut brown, nourishing ale with a lingering hoppy
finish, an ideal companion to food or it can serve
as a delicious digestive after a meal.
SPITFIRE
PREMIUM KENTISH ALE

with the bold citrus and fruity spiciness of
Kentish hops, to produce a well balanced, thirst
quenching popular drink.
WHITSTABLE BAY
ORGANIC ALE

perfect, perhaps ostentatious accompaniment to
modern food.
Whitstable Bay is brewed in accordance with Soil
Association Certification UK5 and is suitable for
vegetarians.
