Tangerine confectionery is the UK’s largest
independent manufacturer of high quality sugar
confectionery. With an extensive portfolio of
products including gums, jellies, liquorice
allsorts, dolly mixture, and the original pink and
white marshmallow, the company manufactures for
both private label and for its own esteemed brands
including Princess Marshmallows, Mojo, Anthon
Berg, and Taveners.
History
Previously owned by Toms of Denmark, the company
was originally created through a series of
acquisitions over a 10 year period between 1992
and 2001. Liverpool based Taveners, Blackpool
based Daintee, and Poole based Parrs were combined
to create a business with an extensive portfolio
of sugar confectionery products.
In January 2006 Toms’ UK business was bought by a
new management team with an established pedigree
in the confectionery trade. The company was
renamed Tangerine Confectionery. ‘The new name
symbolises a fresh start for the business and is
part of a strategy to put the company on the road
to further growth,’ said Chairman Steven Joseph,
one of the principle investors in the new venture.
It wasn’t much further down the road that
Tangerine had to travel as in August 2006 the
company acquired the Blackpool based confectionery
division of Burton’s Foods, enlarging the business
to a turnover in excess of £60million. The company
is now the largest independent sugar confectionery
manufacturer in the UK.

Consortium) through which all sites have retained
Grade A status.
As the best own label sugar confectionery
supplier, the company has reached the final of the
Grocer Gold Awards for the past 5 years running
which is a reflection of Tangerines ability to
deliver continuous quality through both products
and customer relationships.
Consumer welfare is also a top priority for
Tangerine and it is strongly believed that anybody
can enjoy sweet treats as long as they are eaten
in moderation. In regards to ingredients and
nutritional content Tangerine is committed to
converting all products so that they contain only
natural colours and flavours, non hydrogenated fat
and no added salt. Consumers can therefore enjoy
Tangerine products safe in the knowledge that
there are no ‘hidden nasties.’
By obtaining Halal approval on the Princess range,
the company’s products have also been able to
appeal to a broader audience. Tangerine hopes to
gain approval on all branded lines throughout the
business.
Finally and arguably most importantly,
environmental concerns have spurred Tangerine to
ensure that the carbon footprint of individual
products is kept to a minimum by maintaining
production in the UK and where possible sourcing
ingredients locally. A dedicated resource in
packaging is actively involved in researching more
environmentally friendly packaging solutions and
educating customers on the related benefits.

BRANDED PRODUCTS
Princess
Marshmallows
Princess marshmallows have always been the
marshmallow lovers’ favourite. The unique way in
which they are made gives them a seductively soft
fluffy texture like no other! In addition to being
fat free and Halal approved, the marshmallows are
now made with only natural colours and flavours
and they come in a striking new fresh foil pack
for on-shelf impact. The marshmallows are among
the top 10 sugar confectionery hanging bags in the
UK (AC Neilson, 2007). Stockists include Morrisons,
Waitrose, Woolworths and many other independent
retailers across the UK. Tangerine also supplies
to the Republic of Ireland in Tesco Ireland,
Dunnes, and Superquinn.
Little Delights
Princess Little Delights is a range for anyone who
enjoys a little bit of indulgence. Little Delights
are available in three sumptuous variants
including melt in the mouth Crumbly Fudge, smooth
Peppermint Creams, and luscious Assorted Fruit
Creams. Containing only natural colours and
flavours, essential oils and high cocoa content,
these products are too good to resist. Stockists
include Morrisons, Spar, and Waitrose as well as
many other independent retailers across the UK.
Princess Marshmallow Egg
This year’s exciting new addition to the range is
the Princess Marshmallow Egg; A natural flavoured
milk chocolate egg filled with soft and fluffy
pink marshmallow. Introduced in January for Easter
2008, this product is currently available
throughout the UK AND Southern Ireland, including
Somerfield, Superquinn and a host of independent
stores + trade outlets.
Anthon Berg
Anthon Berg is one of the oldest and finest brand
names in Denmark with more than 100 years
experience in refined chocolate making. Since its
inception in 1884 it has been the uncompromised
intention to produce only the very best quality
chocolate and to offer unique taste combinations
and fillings of premium character.
UK product offerings include: Chocolate Liqueurs,
containing famous brand names such as; Jack
Daniels, Remy Martin and Malibu, Remy Martin Fudge
(produced in the UK), and Marzipan and Fruit
Chocolates with this years new range addition of
Raspberry in Orange Liquor.
Taveners
Taveners has been proudly associated with
confectionery manufacturing for over 100 years.
Striving to deliver original values that the
company was founded upon, the Taveners range
continues to deliver a high quality product
offering with inherently traditional values.
Products include traditional sweets such as
Humbugs, Chocolate Limes, Chocolate Éclairs,
Everton Mints, and Dairy toffee.
Taveners was re-launched in January 2007 under the
‘Proper Sweets’ umbrella with a stunning new
packaging design. The products contain only
natural colours and flavours, non hydrogenated fat
and no added salt. Many lines are also fat free
and Halal approved.
Mojo
Mojo is perhaps the most recognised brand amongst
consumers. This is largely due to the success of
its infamous penny (or half penny) chews in the
70s and 80s. The brand has since acquired a more
‘retro’ style appealing to both kids and adults
who can fondly recall Mojo from their youth. The
chews are available in spearmint, strawberry,
orange, banana, and cola.
For 2008, Mojo has acquired a brand new funky
design and fab range additions including gums,
jellies, lollipops, and liquid centred
confectionery. Mojo sweets are available in tubs
and pre- packed bags which are sure to be a hit
with consumers- ‘Respect the Mojo.’
